Title

Adopt a Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Cooperative Agreement with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) for Reimbursement from the Local Alternative Transportation Improvement (LATIP) Funds for the Traffic Signal Improvements on Jackson Street (Formerly SR-92)

RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

That Council adopts a resolution (Attachment II) authorizing the City Manager to execute a Cooperative Agreement with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) for reimbursement of $531,000 from the Local Alternative Transportation Improvement Program (LATIP) funds for the traffic signal improvements on Jackson Street, formerly SR-92.

SUMMARY

Improvements to the traffic signals on Jackson Street were included in the original Mission Boulevard Phase 2 (Phase 2) project but removed from the construction documents during bidding due to bidder concerns that required additional time to design. The construction of Mission Boulevard Phase 2 has been completed without the traffic signal improvements on Jackson Street. The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has reallocated the remaining LATIP funds from Phase 2 to the traffic signal improvements on Jackson Street project. Because Caltrans administers and reimburses the LATIP funds, a cooperative agreement between the City and Caltrans is necessary. Staff recommends authorizing the City Manager to execute this cooperative agreement.
