SUMMARY

Staff partnered with Ava Community Energy (Ava) to prepare a feasibility assessment for the addition of a battery energy storage system (BESS) to the Downtown Library. The assessment was completed through Ava’s Resilience Hub Technical Assistance program and recommends the addition of a 480 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, which would support critical loads for 24 consecutive hours under average conditions. Depending on weather conditions and solar generation, the battery could sustain basic Library operations for an extended period of time. Staff recommends moving forward with request for proposals and an application to Ava Community Energy to reserve incentive funds to install a battery at the Downtown Library.
