FROM:     GHAD Manager

SUBJECT

Geologic Hazard Abatement District Board (GHAD) Newsletter

RECOMMENDATION

The purpose of this agenda item is to provide the Geologic Hazard Abatement District (GHAD) Board of Directors within an example of an informational newsletter about the Hayward GHAD for residents within The Reserve development. If approved, with or without modification, the GHAD Manager would, as requested by the Board of Directors, distribute a copy of this newsletter to residents and property owners.

SUMMARY

In general, residents or property owners living within a GHAD may not be aware of the GHAD’s existence or its function. To help provide residents within the Hayward GHAD information on the District, the GHAD maintains a website (www.haywardghad.org <http://www.haywardghad.org>) with information about the GHAD’s formation and current activities.

As requested, we have prepared a sample newsletter for distribution within the GHAD. We have prepared and distributed by mail similar letters for residents in other GHADs to help them understand the GHAD’s structure, purpose, and to provide contact information. We find that these letters have helped residents know who to contact when they have an issue or have questions about their GHAD.

There are 149 residences within The Reserve development. Preparing and mailing a newsletter to each residence would cost between approximately $800 to $900.  The cost to prepare a newsletter and place on the website would be approximately $200.

The GHAD Manager is seeking direction on the following options:

1.                     Prepare and mail a newsletter to each residence within The Reserve development; or

2.                     Prepare a newsletter and place on the GHAD’s website; or

3.                     Provide comments on other methods to provide information to residents with the GHAD.
