RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

That the City Council adopts a resolution (Attachment II) authorizing the City Manager to submit an individual grant application for the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle)’s Illegal Disposal Site Abatement Grant Program (Grant) as the assigned designated signature authority and a resolution (Attachment III) to accept and appropriate $250,000 in grant funds if awarded.

End

SUMMARY

CalRecycle offers the Grant to clean up solid waste sites and disposal sites where cleanup is needed to protect public health and safety and/or the environment. Grant funds support projects through June 2029 and require no matching funds. As part of the grant process, governing bodies must submit a resolution authorizing the submission of a grant application and assign a designated signature authority. Maintenance Services is recommending applying for $250,000 in grant funds to reinstate the Disposal Day events, install preventative illegal dumping measures, and hire limited-term staff to support these efforts.
