RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

 

That the Council adopts a resolution (Attachment II) awarding the construction contract to JJ Construction and Design, Inc. (JJ Construction) in the amount of $384,098 and authorizing a contingency change order budget of $120,000 for a total not-to-exceed contract amount of $504,098 for the Municipal Parking Lot No. 11 Improvement, Project No. 05741.

SUMMARY

 

On September 12, 2023, eleven (11) bids were received for the Municipal Parking Lot No. 11 (Muni Lot 11) Improvement Project, of which four (4) were local contractors from Hayward. JJ Construction of Hayward submitted the low bid in the amount of $384,098, which is 19.98% lower than the Engineer’s Estimate of $480,000. Bear Construction, Inc., of Hayward, submitted the second lowest bid in the amount of $430,530, which is 10.31% lower than the Engineer’s Estimate.  Innovate Concrete, Inc., of San Jose, submitted the third lowest bid in the corrected amount of $430,571 which is 10.29% lower than the Engineer’s Estimate.

 

The project is categorically exempt from environmental review under Section 15301(c) of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines for the operation, repair, maintenance, or minor alteration of existing facilities.
